JONES FARM
a MAINE LICENSED DAIRY FARM
All of our raw dairy products are tested by the state every month. We follow a high level of cleanliness, both in the milking process and in all of our milk handling procedures. All of the equipment that comes into contact with the milk is cleaned with high temperature water and the appropriate approved chemicals after each use.

How to Keep Milk Fresh
The date on our milk & cream is the “sell by” date. The bottled on date is 10 days before the sell by date. Expect our milk to stay fresh for at least a week after the sell by date if left un-opened.
Sour raw milk isn’t at all like spoiled pasteurized milk! Jones Farm milk turns sour due to the natural lactic acid bacteria that live in raw milk; the process is similar to what occurs in yogurt-making. If some of your milk does sour before you have a chance to drink it all, it still has many culinary uses!
Use your soured milk as a substitute for buttermilk in pancakes, biscuits, doughnuts, or in mashed potatoes. Additionally, you can use it to make a simple ricotta cheese.
Animal Care & Herd Management
The health and wellbeing of our does and kids is at the heart of our milk production. From birth through weaning, we prioritize giving each kid the best possible start in life.
At birth, we ensure that each kid nurses from its mother immediately to receive vital colostrum. Afterward, the kids are separated from their mothers and fed using the milk bucket method, ensuring that every kid receives adequate nutrition. For the safety of both our family and the herd, all goats are carefully disbudded.
We continue feeding 100% goat’s milk from our herd until weaning at 8-10 weeks of age.
We gradually introduce hay and a medicated feed to help prevent coccidia. The kids also receive a double booster of CD/T before being weaned off milk.
Our does receive an annual CD/T booster and a copper bolus twice a year. They have constant access to hay, fresh water, kelp, goat minerals, and baking soda, and during the warmer months, they enjoy free-range grazing in the fields.

We pay close attention to the health of each of our animals, following a strict nutrition plan and engaging in integrated parasite management. We regularly test for CAE, CL, and Johne’s and we have never had a positive test in our herd.
We are committed to providing attentive, thoughtful care to ensure a healthy, happy herd.
