Animal Care & Herd Management

The health and wellbeing of our does and kids is at the heart of our milk production. From birth through weaning, we prioritize giving each kid the best possible start in life.
At birth, we ensure that each kid nurses from its mother immediately to receive vital colostrum. Afterward, the kids are separated from their mothers and fed using the milk bucket method, ensuring that every kid receives adequate nutrition. For the safety of both our family and the herd, all goats are carefully disbudded.
We continue feeding 100% goat’s milk from our herd until weaning at 8-10 weeks of age.
We gradually introduce hay and a medicated feed to help prevent coccidia. The kids also receive a double booster of CD/T before being weaned off milk.
Our does receive an annual CD/T booster and a copper bolus twice a year. They have constant access to hay, fresh water, kelp, goat minerals, and baking soda, and during the warmer months, they enjoy free-range grazing in the fields.

We pay close attention to the health of each of our animals, following a strict nutrition plan and engaging in integrated parasite management. We regularly test for CAE, CL, and Johne’s and we have never had a positive test in our herd.
We are committed to providing attentive, thoughtful care to ensure a healthy, happy herd.
